The key difference between Video Views and Reel Plays lies in their scope and placement focus.
Video Views tracks organic views (at least 3 seconds) of video posts, including Reels, when they appear in the News Feed or as traditional posts on a page timeline. In contrast, Reel Plays captures all plays (both organic and paid) of Reels, regardless of placement—whether viewed in the Reels feed, News Feed, Stories, or other surfaces.
Metric | Reels Feed Views | News Feed Views | Paid Views | Replays Counted |

Reel Plays
- Scope: Tracks all plays (organic and paid) for a Reel regardless of where it appeared.
- Reel Placement: Includes views from both the Reels feed and other placements, such as the News Feed, Stories, or Explore.
- Advantages:
- Comprehensive for all views across placements.
- Includes replays and views from both organic discovery and paid ads.
Video Views
- Scope: Tracks organic views for video posts, including Reels if they appear as a post in the News Feed or on the page timeline.
- Reel Placement: Only counts views that occur when the Reel is shown as a traditional video post (e.g., shared to the News Feed or on the page, not in the Reels feed).
- Limitations:
- Does not include views originating from the dedicated Reels feed.
- Focuses only on organic views, excluding paid promotions.
