Content Mix vs. Content Type Priorities vs. Editorial Multipliers

What’s the difference and when should I be using each one?

These three features are levers you can use to influence how the True Anthem algorithm orders content in your queue. It is important to know the differences so you can decide which is best suited to help you achieve your goals.

All three are available in the Content Rules tab within the Schedule section of your Dashboard.

Feature: The Content Mix Preference

What Does It Do? This setting controls the ratio of unposted content to recirculated content (meaning previously posted content) that is recommended for distribution by the AI in your queue.

When To Use It: If you aren't seeing enough recently published content in your queue OR do not feel you are seeing it quickly enough, you will want to increase your % of unposted content in your Content Mix.

Feature: Editorial Multiplier

What Does It Do? Adding a multiplier is how to give specific content types a soft prioritization over other content types, boosting their ranking within our content recommendation algorithms and increasing the likelihood of their content going out without forcing it.

When To Use It: If you’re looking to emphasize certain content types over others, you can consider adding a score multiplier. This will allow for a balanced mix of content while allowing preferred content to receive greater exposure.

For example, if you assign a multiplier of 10 to “Breaking News” content, its score is boosted tenfold in True Anthem’s recommendation algorithms, increasing its chance of selection over content types with the same Content Type Priority setting (either unposted or recirculated).

As with the Content Type Priorities, this should be used sparingly. It is not needed when there is only one content type in a post job.

Feature: Content Type Priorities

What Does It Do? This feature allows you to tell the system what order to rank your content buckets in the queue.

When using Content Type Priorities you are hard prioritizing your content, meaning if no content meets the criteria for Priority 1, then and only then can the system surface content from Priority 2.

When To Use It: This feature should be used sparingly! A good use case for this would be if you would like to ensure “Breaking News” content always goes out before any other type of content.

Our Strategy team’s recommendation is to set all content types at priority 1 to ensure True Anthem always selects content that will deliver the best possible performance according to your Content Mix Preference.

This feature is less relevant for lifestyle publishers.
