Content Mix Preference: The Perfect Blend of New Content and Top Performers

The Content Mix Preference feature within the Content Rules section of the True Anthem Dashboard allows you to customize the balance between new, unposted content and high-performing previously posted content that is redistributed on your social media platforms. This feature helps ensure that your audience receives a mix of fresh material and the best-performing content from your past, keeping your social feeds both engaging and relevant.

Important Note: Content Mix Preference is available to Campaigns participating in the closed Self-Service Beta Features Program. If you're interested in joining the Beta and taking greater control of your content mix, reach out to your Customer Success Manager.

In this article, we will explain how the Content Mix Preference works and provide guidance on how to use it effectively.

What Is Content Mix Preference?

The Content Mix Preference refers to the ratio of new, unposted content to high-performing previously posted content (also known as recirculated content) that is distributed across your social media channels. This feature helps you control how much fresh content versus recirculated, popular content is shared with your audience, providing the opportunity to maximize the visibility of well-performing posts while keeping your feed fresh with new content.

For example, setting a mix of 70% unposted content and 30% recirculated content allows you to prioritize new content, while still leveraging the reach and engagement of older, successful posts.

Important Note: The Content Mix Preference does not refer to the mix of media types (e.g., links, photos, or videos), but this functionality may be supported in the future.

How Does Content Mix Preference Work?

1. Accessing the Content Mix Setting

  • Navigate to the Content Rules section on the True Anthem Dashboard.
  • Find the Content Mix Preference link in the left sub-navigation.
  • Click the link to open the Content Mix modal popup.

2. Adjusting Content Mix Percentages

  • In the modal window, you will see two input fields representing the percentage of unposted content and recirculated content.
  • Enter your desired ratio. For example, if you set 75% for unposted content, the corresponding percentage for recirculated content will automatically adjust to 25% to maintain a total of 100%.
  • The selected percentages define how much fresh content will be distributed compared to recirculated high-performing posts.

3. Content Mix at the Social Network Level

  • The Content Mix Preference is applied at the social network account level for consistency across all post jobs. This ensures that the content mix is uniform for each social network unless a manual override is applied.
  • Post job-level customization is not supported at this time, but the Content Mix setting will be displayed at the post job level for visibility.

4. Default Content Mix Values

  • By default, True Anthem sets the Content Mix to 70% unposted content and 30% recirculated content. This default ensures a balance between promoting new content while continuing to capitalize on high-performing older content.
  • You can customize this mix to suit your content distribution strategy.

5. Viewing and Updating the Content Mix

  • You can view the Content Mix for each social network in the Content Rules section of the Dashboard. If all post jobs associated with a social network use the same mix, these values will be displayed at the social network level.
  • If different post jobs associated with a single social network have varying mixes, a label will appear in the Dashboard, indicating that the settings are "Varied – See Post Job Settings" for more specific details.

6. Saving Changes

  • Once you've set your preferred mix, save the changes, and the new preferences will be applied to all future content published through True Anthem.
  • Post jobs that have the same Content Mix as the social network level settings will automatically inherit any updates you make.

7. Understanding the Content Mix as a Preference, Not a Requirement

It’s important to note that the Content Mix Preference is a guide for True Anthem’s content distribution, not a hard requirement. For instance, if your content mix is set to 90% unposted content and 10% recirculated content, but there is no available new, unposted content eligible for posting after five posts, True Anthem will continue to post recirculation-eligible content in upcoming time slots until more new, unposted content becomes available.

However, when there is sufficient volume of both eligible new and recirculated content, True Anthem will always follow the selected preference.

Best Practices for Using Content Mix Preference

  • Leverage High-Performing Content: Using a higher percentage of recirculated content is a great way to extend the reach of your best-performing posts without overwhelming your audience with entirely new material.
  • Balance New and Old: For most publishers, starting with the default 70% unposted and 30% recirculated content provides a balanced approach. Test this ratio and adjust based on engagement trends.
  • Revisit Regularly: Audience preferences may shift, so revisit your Content Mix settings periodically and adjust based on the performance of your new and recirculated content.
  • Consistent Strategy: It’s best to maintain a consistent Content Mix across all post jobs under a social network account to avoid confusion and maximize efficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Customize the Content Mix for Individual Post Jobs?

Currently, the Content Mix Preference can only be set at the social network account level. However, this ensures consistency across your posts. Post job-level customization is not supported at this time but may be introduced in the future.

What Happens If I Don’t Adjust the Content Mix?

If you don’t make any adjustments, the default Content Mix of 70% unposted content and 30% recirculated content will apply. This allows your social media channels to maintain a steady flow of new material while also capitalizing on the visibility of high-performing older content.

How Do I Know Which Content to Recirculate?

True Anthem's automated platform selects high-performing content for recirculation based on previous engagement metrics. This means that only your most engaging posts will be recirculated.

How Often Should I Update My Content Mix?

We recommend reviewing your Content Mix settings quarterly or after major content campaigns to ensure that your distribution strategy aligns with your current goals and audience preferences.
