Understanding Facebook Monetization

Facebook Content Monetization is here and publishers are seeing the payout numbers climb. Whether you just recently became eligible, are starting to see the data in your True Anthem dashboard, or you’ve been watching the money roll in and want to keep growing your successes, we’re here to help.

Let’s start with the basics…

You can earn money from almost every type of content you create: Reels, Stories, photos, and even text posts. However, Meta has reported that of the $3B paid out to creators in 2025, 60% went to Reels.

But how do those payouts work?

Facebook has clarified, payouts are based on content’s performance, which means your approximate earnings are based on the qualified views your content receives.

Ok, so what are “qualified views”?

According to them, Meta excludes “repeat views, views shorter than five seconds, or views on content that doesn’t meet their Partner or Content Monetization Policies.”

What else influences payout?

  • Watch Time: As users’ watch time increases on a Reel or Story, businesses may earn a higher payout. Meta recommends that folks experiment with different lengths to find the content's "sweet spot" of watch time engagement and qualified views.
  • Engagement: Whether the audience reacts, comments, or shares, it signals to Meta that the content is resonating. This can help boost distribution, leading to more views and, ultimately, earnings.
  • Global Reach: Payout can also vary depending on the region where the content is viewed.
  • Content Quality and Originality: According to Meta, “high-quality, original content is more likely to be recommended and earn more.”

Optimizing Your Content for Maximum Earnings

When considering these factors, you may be wondering about the best way to optimize your content. To help make the most of the Facebook Monetization program, we recommend:

  • Experimenting with different media types: So far, the audiences of our True Anthem publishers appear to engage best with photos and Reels.
  • Focus on your qualified views and watch time: The more people watch your Reels and Stories, the more you get paid!

Strategic Indicator: If you see that your views are increasing over time, but your engagement rate is on the decline, it is likely an indicator that your views are not "qualified views.” This is a great opportunity to re-consider your strategy!

Strategy Tip: Qualified views really highlight the importance of quality over quantity. Consider focusing on Reels positioned for high engagement, reposting high performing evergreen content, and media with a dynamic hook before simply increasing post volume.

  • Don’t overlook the value of engagements: Reactions, comments, and shares signal to Meta that your content is connecting with audiences—which will help it perform better, thus maximizing your earnings.

Any other advice?

Since we know that “qualified views” are the metric driving earnings, it is a good idea to keep an eye on your views trends in the True Anthem Reporting dashboard.

When diving into the Targeted Timeframe Report and Rolling Comparison Reports, you can not only see the trajectory of your views metrics, which will likely mirror those of your monetization trends, but you can drill into which media types are driving the lion’s share of your organic views and engagements, and beyond.

While learnings from the Monetization program are still evolving, we’re here to keep you abreast with the latest tips, tricks, and best practices. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your Customer Success Manager with any questions and stay in touch for more information to come.
