Why did Monetization claiming fail for my YouTube Video?

We are committed to ensuring your video content is monetized efficiently. If you received a notification that we were unable to claim monetization for one of your YouTube videos, it is typically due to one of the reasons listed below.

Please review these potential issues and take the necessary corrective action.

Primary Reasons for Claim Failure

1. Forbidden: Insufficient Permissions (403 Error)

The most common reason for a failed claim is that our service account does not have the necessary permissions within your YouTube Content Manager (CMS) to execute the claim.

  • Required Action: You must ensure that the following three permissions are granted to our service account email:
    • Video manager
    • Content ID manual claiming
    • Content ID rights management
  • Also Check:
    • Content Owner Bulk Action Setting: Please ensure the setting "No bulk actions on content" is NOT checked in your CMS for our service account. This setting prevents us from performing the necessary claiming actions.

2. Bad Request: Video is Private (Privacy Status Error)

YouTube's Content ID claiming process only works on publicly available or unlisted videos. Private videos cannot be claimed for monetization.

  • Required Action: Change the video's privacy status on YouTube from Private to either Public or Unlisted. We recommend setting the video to Public once you are ready for monetization to begin.

3. Bad Request: Missing Video Metadata (Title Error)

The video must have a valid title for the claim to be successfully registered through the API.

  • Required Action: Ensure the YouTube video has a non-empty title. If you've uploaded a video without a title, please add one.

4. Not Found: Video Deleted or Removed

If a video has been deleted from YouTube, the API will not be able to find it to place the monetization claim.

  • Required Action: Check that the video ID referenced in the failure email is still active and visible on your YouTube channel.

5. API/System Error

Less common, but possible, is an issue on the YouTube Content ID API side or an internal system error on our end.

  • API Down/Internal Server Error (e.g., 500/503 Error): This indicates a temporary service disruption.
  • Quota Limit Exceeded: YouTube imposes daily limits on API calls. If you have a high volume of claims, we may temporarily hit this limit.
  • Required Action: If you have confirmed that none of the above Forbidden, Bad Request, or Not Found issues apply, this is likely a temporary issue. Please wait 24 hours and if the issue persists, contact Support.

Next Steps

  1. Identify which reason(s) above apply to your video.
  2. Make the necessary changes in your YouTube Content Manager or the video's settings.
  3. If problem persists, contact Support through one of these methods:
    • Reply to the original failure email to create a ticket and notify the True Anthem support team (Recommended)
    • Contact support to create a support request with the Video ID included
